In years gone by, career singing was unlike many traditional vocations like nursing, engineering or teaching for example. Most traditional jobs have a well-trod pathway of undergraduate development, where on completion of a degree, the graduand receives a certificate qualifying them for the studied discipline. And even trades like plumbing or auto-mechanics have a predefined process for learning on the job. But the development of the professional singer is unlike many other situations. There is no formalised inauguration process to becoming a professional singer.
